About STIP

The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize (STIP), established in 2022 by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation (HKATI) and title sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong), is a non-governmental merit-based award.

The STIP aims to reward outstanding scientists and research teams in Hong Kong or in research-related corporations/organisations set up by Hong Kong institutions and located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, for their significant achievements in scientific and technological innovation and transformation. The STIP encourages them to serve the motherland, connect to the Greater Bay Area, and contribute to the world with its foothold in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation (HKATI”) was established on July 15, 2022. Guided by national strategic needs, it is dedicated to promoting the development of technology and innovation in Hong Kong, supporting the construction of an international innovation and technology centre, deepening exchanges and cooperation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and accelerating HonKong's integration into the national development. HKATI's four missions are: first, to promote transdisciplinary innovation and collaboration; second, to advance cross-sector research exchanges; third, to provide policy advice to government agencies on innovation and technology development; and fourth, to organize science education and popularization activities that enhance public understanding and interest in science and technology-especially among the youth-thereby fostering the spirit of "Revitalizing Hong Kong through innovation and Technology, Serving the Nation through Science and Technology."

As originally suggested by Prof. YANG Chen Ning, Beijing – Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre ("BHKAEC") was established and registered in Hong Kong in March 1985. BHKAEC is a not-for-profit institution serving academic exchange. It aims to promote the initiation and development of activities involving academic, science and technology interflow, as well as cooperation between Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas institutes by providing enquiry services, liaison and financial assistance, etc. BHKAEC is commissioned by Mainland education, science and technology units, and supported by the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. At present, participation in BHKAEC's Board of Directors includes such institutions as the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the China Association for Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
