Prof. JIA Jiaya has spearheaded a research team in the development of a new generation of intelligent manufacturing platforms and highly automated manufacturing research and development systems, which drives the exploration of intelligent upgrading and digital transformation in the industrial manufacturing sector.
JIA Jiaya, an expert in the fields of computer vision, artificial intelligence and computational imaging, is currently a tenured Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the founder of SmartMore Corporation, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the first Chinese Associate Editor in the field of computer vision for the "IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI)". He has published over 200 papers with more than 60,000 citations and has been ranked "World's Top 2% Scientists" published by Stanford University and Elsevier Data Repository.
The essence of the current digitalisation demand in the industry is the transformation from lean manufacturing to smart manufacturing, during which the industry needs to seek a balance between two dimensions: to improve efficiency as far as possible without losing quality. An industrial software system based on the "Large Industrial Model" thus has been developed by Professor JIA to empower customers to quickly abstract and solidify management best practices in a new technology paradigm. He always places strong emphasis on developing general algorithm, software, and hardware, for ever-evolving product offerings. One of his inventions is an end-to-end vision system with data learning, training, and testing for complex scenarios throughout the production line, e.g. material tracking, defect locating, product quantity counting, appearance defect detection, which enables manufacturing enterprises to transform from reactive and preventive maintenance to predictive and prescriptive maintenance, and ultimately to achieve more effective decision-making and recommended intervention with intelligence. The cross-industry "optical, mechanical, electrical, computational and software" integrated solutions with mature digitalisation capabilities delivered by Professor JIA have significantly improved infrastructure performance, information security, and R&D efficiency.
