Dai is currently a Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry at Hong Kong University, and the J. G. Jackson-C. J. Wood Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University. Dai earned his B.S. in Physics from Tsinghua University in 1989, an M.S. in Applied Sciences from Columbia University in 1991, and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics/Physical Chemistry from Harvard University in 1994. Throughout his career, Dai has received numerous awards and honors, such as the JC STEM Lab of Nanoscience and Nanomedicine Awardee in 2024, the Nano Research Award in 2022, and the Citation Laureate by Clarivate in 2020. He is also a member of the US National Academy of Medicine, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a recipient of the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award. With over 420 publications, more than 180,000 citations, and an h-index of 188, Dai's research has had a profound impact on the scientific community.
