Prof Tsung is a Chair Professor of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics, the Director of the Laboratory for Quality and Big Data Analytics at HKUST. Furthermore, he holds joint appointments as a Chair Professor in the Data Science and Analytics Thrust, and the Computational Media and Arts Thrust at HKUST(GZ). Additionally, he serves as the Director of the Industrial Informatics and Intelligence Institute. He is an Academician of the International Academy for Quality. Meanwhile, he is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the American Society for Quality, the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
Prof Tsung obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He has previously served as the Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics at HKUST, the Acting Dean of Information Hub, HKUST(GZ), and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Quality Technology, Quality Technology and Quantitative Management, Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering. His research interests are related to quality analytics, industrial big data, statistical process control, monitoring, and diagnosis. He has published over 180 top-tier journal papers and is listed among the top 2% of most influential scientists worldwide by Stanford-Elsevier. He was also awarded the 2025 ASQ Shewhart Medal, the highest honor in quality-related theory, methods, and practice.
