BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2023 Opens for Nomination
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize (STIP), in response to the nine Strategic Emerging Industries proposed by our nation's 14th Five-Year Plan and in line with the initiatives that the Hong Kong SAR government focuses on, is presented in five eligible categories to encourage researchers and innovators to aim at the forefront of world science and technology: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing, FinTech. STIP, based in Hong Kong with a mission to meet our nation’s needs and contribute to the world, rewards outstanding scientists and research teams for their significant achievements in scientific and technological innovation and transformation in Hong Kong.
The selection committee of STIP consisted of top-tier experts from all over the world will select 5 winners (or groups) and award with no-strings-attached HK$ 2 million sponsored by BOCHK. The chairpersons of the five panels are Prof. Yike Guo (computer scientist), Prof. Yuk Ming Dennis Lo (molecular biologist), Prof. Wing Wah Vivian Yam (chemist), Ir Prof. H.C. Man (expert in advanced manufacturing), and Prof. Kar Yan Tam (expert in information system). Most of the panel members are local scientists, while overseas experts account for 30%; among them, there are academicians of the World Academy of Sciences, Academia Europaea, and national academies from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, and Netherlands.
STIP, established by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation and title sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, is in its second year. Its secretary is run by the Beijing – Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre. The laureates of STIP 2022 are Prof. Hongbin Liu and Dr. Tat Ming Danny Chan (for their invention of a flexible endoscopic robotic system for minimally invasive neurosurgery), Prof. Yongping Zheng (for his invention of a radiation-free three-dimensional ultrasound scoliosis assessment system), Professor Zhiyong Fan (for his innovative work on bionic sensory devices), Prof. Zuankai Wang (for his contributions to bridging nature-inspired manufacturing innovations), and Mr. Calvin Cheng (for his development of a proprietary software to automate and streamline the complex reporting and due diligence workflow in capital markets).
