Dr. Ivan Sham oversees the research and development projects in the Construction Sector. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST) and MBA from the University of Strathclyde (UK). His research interests include advanced cementitious composites, coating technologies, fiber surface treatment, and nanostructured composites materials development and characterization, finite element analysis, etc.
Dr. Sham had worked in the Hong Kong Applied Science & Research Institute (ASTRI) before joining NAMI, overseeing a number of key projects with the government and the industries. He was also the Visiting Assistant Professor and part-time Lecturer at HKUST on Materials Science, Fracture Mechanics, Nanocomposites, and Electronic Packaging.
Dr. Sham was the Chairperson of IEEE-CPMT (HK Chapter, 2009-10), and Co-opted Council Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3, HK Chapter) since 2018. He was the Outstanding Alumnus of Mechanical Engineering of HKUST and Croucher Post-doc Fellow. He has over 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals/conferences, and 15 granted patents in the US and China.
